Oleh/By : DATO' SERI DR. MAHATHIR BIN MOHAMAD Tempat/Venue : SONGKHLA, THAILAND Tarikh/Date : 16/05/85 Tajuk/Title : THE OPENING OF THE NEW MALAYSIAN CONSULATE-GENERAL BUILDING His Excellency Mr. Anek Rojanapibulya, (pronounced as Rochanapibun) The Governor of Songkhla Province; Excellencies; Distinguished guests; Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency, Mr. Anek Rochanapibun, for finding time to be with us today at the inauguration of the new Malaysian Consulate General building. I would also like to thank all our distinguished guests whose presence among us makes this ceremony a memorable occasion. Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, 2. The opening of the new Consulate General building today marks a small but nonetheless significant development in our bilateral relations. To Malaysia, it symbolises the continuing development of our close relations. The continuing interaction and close cooperation between the people of our two countries, particularly the people in Southern Thailand and in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia, necessitates the strengthening of the Malaysian Consulate General at Songkhla, and this building manifests our desire to achieve this aim. 3. Every year, thousands of Malaysians come to South Thailand to visit the numerous tourist attractions. Many of them have found their way to the Consulate for various services. It is hoped that with this new building both Malaysians and Thais will be provided with better and improved services. 4. I am told that a lot of effort has been put into the construction of this building. I wish to commend all those who have worked hard to make the project a success. 5. To us Malaysians, this beautiful building gives us a sense of pride and it is my sincere hope that it will help to enhance the close and friendly relations between our two countries. Your Excellency, Ladies and Gentlemen, 6. I have now much pleasure to declare this building open. Thank you. |
