Ladies and Gentlemen;
    I  am very delighted to be here today in this great and
historic city.  I am deeply touched by the very warm  hospi-
tality  and  welcome that has been extended to me and my de-
legation by Your Excellency  and  the  wonderful  people  of
Mexico City.
     I  feel  very  privileged to be made a special guest of
this great city and I thank Your Excellency  for  the  great
honour you have bestowed upon me.
     You are quite right in pointing out that both our coun-
tries share many similarities.  We must now build upon these
shared  characteristics  to  develop closer economic cooper-
ation between our two countries.   President Salinas  and  I
have  agreed  to make this our common objective.  We can all
look forward therefore to a closer and  mutually  beneficial
relationship.
     Once  again,  may  I thank you for welcoming me to your
great city and for honouring me in this very special way.
